Choosing a Diamond (or gemstone) engagement ring for your girlfriend (or boyfriend)

It’s a brave man (or woman) that chooses an engagement ring for their potential fiance.
There are so many options, different variables to get right.
First, what shape diamond? Round, princess, cushion, emerald, marquise, pear?
Shoulder diamonds? Claw set? rubover set? Trilogy? Cluster?
The possibilities are quite simply, endless.
For some people this is all part and parcel of keeping their proposal a surprise, some even relish the challenge.
You may have been given an idea of what your partner would like in terms of diamond shape or ring style, they may have given you clues, they may have a Pinterest account or Instagram where they might have left some pointers. I’m not telling you to stalk them. Just maybe some light snooping to find out if they have thought about this and liked some celebrities picture of their engagement ring. Maybe, they have just told you straight out what kind of engagement ring they would like. (Lucky you) or maybe, it all just sounded like mumbo jumbo when they said they wanted a baguette diamond trilogy with pear shape shoulders, all of a G colour, SI clarity grade and above, in platinum, size J.
Of course, a lot of people choose the ring together, this can take a lot of pressure off, but ultimately removes the element of surprise.
Your partner might be a fan of art deco styles, they may like modern designs, they may like a more traditional style of ring or you may have a custom, bespoke idea in mind.
We can help you choose a style of ring, we can help you choose a shape of diamond and we can help you choose a quality of diamond to achieve the right balance between diamond size and quality. This, along with the size (carat weight) will determine the price.
Here at Victoria James jewellers in the Birmingham jewellery Quarter we only use independently certificated diamonds (0.20ct and over). So, you can be sure that whatever diamond you choose the quality has been verified, not by us but by a trusted independent body.
Whichever way you choose to get an engagement ring, with or without your partners input- we can help.
It can be a daunting task but it’s one that we can make a little easier.
