Valuation service

As part of guarding your jewellery against loss, theft or damage you may want to insure your jewellery items.

To do this you may need a valuation, an appraisal of what your items are worth and what an insurance company should be aiming to pay in the event of a loss, theft or damage related incident.

Our Valuation service consists of a full description of the piece, including style, metals used, hallmarks and size, shape and name of any stones used, photographs of the items and, of course, a value based on today’s market.

We give you copies to submit to your insurance company and it’s all presented in a neat folder for your safe keeping. We will also keep a record should you wish to update the value of your Jewellery items, we recommend that you do this every couple of years(more often given the huge increases in the price of Gold recently) or when you change address, as addresses that don’t match will void any policy you may have. On these occasions we will give you a new document with updated prices and copies to re-submit to your insurers.

The cost of a valuation is £40 for the first item and a further £25 for each additional item. The cost to update items already on our database is £30 for the first item and £20 for each additional item.

Approximate grade of stones may also be appropriate. (gemstone/diamond reports are also available) For more info, get in touch by using our direct message service on our contact us page or by giving us a call, we can arrange an appointment to see your items in our Birmingham Jewellery Quarter shop.

We also offer the option of having your jewellery assessed by a third party, Safeguard is the valuing department of the Birmingham Assay office, based here in the heart of the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter.

Safeguard's expert valuers carefully examine all your jewellery, watches and silver. They will use their experience and the latest equipment to arrive at an informed opinion and provide you with a written valuation.
